20-SOMETHING AND EVERYTHING: Embracing Adulthood

You know the catchy tune by Ladé, “Adulthood Na Scam”? It didn’t take me long to resonate with its sentiments. As a 20-something navigating the chaotic waters of growing up, I’ve encountered the highs, the lows, and all the messy in-betweens. It’s like a rollercoaster where the bills pile up faster than my savings and the responsibilities multiply before I’ve caught my breath.

Just when I think I’ve got a handle on things, adulthood throws another curveball to keep me on my toes. But you know what? That’s what makes it an adventure. Amid the chaos and challenges, I’ve discovered moments of growth, clarity, and self-discovery. And for that, I’m deeply grateful.

This past year, one of my biggest breakthroughs was discovering the incredible power of therapy. No dramatic tales here—just genuine, life-changing experiences that pushed me to explore my emotions, confront my fears, and challenge myself in ways I never thought possible.

Therapy became the spark that lit my journey into self-development. I started to see the importance of adding value to myself, of exploring passions I’d overlooked, and of embracing new growth opportunities. Writing became a powerful tool to express my thoughts and share my personal journey. I realized that I needed to share these insights with others, hoping to inspire and support those on their paths of self-growth.

When a good friend encouraged me to start a blog, this space was born. It became a platform to share my lessons, personal strategies, and growth journey. More importantly, I hope to create a community of like-minded individuals striving to uncover their potential and embrace self-discovery.

As I leaned into self-improvement, I found myself constantly learning through books, videos, podcasts (excluding the ones dedicated to wild relationship advice, lol)—each one added value to my journey. The wisdom I gained inspired me to recognize my own strengths and take bold steps toward cultivating them.

I prioritized investing in myself, enrolling in courses, and attending conferences (sometimes overwhelming myself in the process). I even earned a spot in a fellowship program at PRNigeria. Balancing all this with a fulfilling job, side hustles, and NYSC isn’t always easy. Still, the growth and achievements were worth every late night and early morning.

But let’s be real—progress isn’t always smooth. There were setbacks, rejections, and moments of doubt. Times when I questioned if I was on the right path. Yet, these challenges didn’t break me. They became opportunities to build resilience, to dig deeper, and to keep moving forward. As my friend wisely told me, “Find opportunities in challenges, and you’ll grow.” I refused to succumb to self-pity, rather, I chose to find the silver lining. Even financial setbacks became fuel for my motivation to push harder and aim higher.

Adulthood is full of challenges and opportunities. Through grit and resilience, I have persevered and achieved more than I ever thought possible. This year, I’ve faced many tests of resilience, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come. I’ve grown emotionally and professionally, thanks to a willingness to embrace discomfort and seek growth.

And, of course, navigating adulthood comes with its temptations and challenges—like trying to eat healthy, while your taste buds are craving shawarma or a big bag of junk food. Adulthood is a constant tug-of-war between being responsible and giving in to those indulgences. But hey! Sometimes you have to treat yourself, after all, it’s all about balance.

Adulthood can be wild, unpredictable, and overwhelming—but it’s also a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. So, whether you’re facing challenges or celebrating victories, remember that you are on a unique growth path. Believe in yourself, embrace the journey, and never stop evolving.

So, here’s my challenge to you: take a chance on yourself. Whatever you’ve been holding back on—learning a new skill, pursuing a passion, applying for that dream job—start today. Because, as the saying goes, “nothing ventured, nothing gained.”

Today, as I celebrate my birthday, I’m taking a moment to reflect on my journey and how blessed I have been.

I am not the person I was a year ago, and I’m excited about who I’m becoming. The journey isn’t over, but I’ve learned to appreciate the process—the lessons, the triumphs, and even the setbacks. And the best part? I’m still evolving, still learning, and still finding new ways to grow. My Heavenly Father has been my constant guide, providing strength and direction through it all.
